Kontron K3931-N mITX with Intel® Core™ i3 processors and Intel® N-Series processors (Alder Lake N)

Kontron, Ismaning, March 14, 2023 - Kontron, a globally leading provider of IoT/Embedded Computing Technology (ECT), unveils at embedded world 2023 a mITX motherboard based on Intel® Core™ i3 processors as well as Intel® N-series processors featuring the latest UHD Gen12 graphics. This expands Kontron's product line of compact, energy-efficient motherboards “Designed and Made in Germany.” The K3931-N mITX is available in four variants with different CPUs and is particularly suitable for applications in Casino Gaming, Digital Signage, kiosks, POS/POI, ticketing, as well as for use in industry and medical technology.

Intel® Core™ i3 and N-series processors set new standards for x86 processors in the power range of 6 W to 15 W. They utilize the same Efficient Cores and Intel® UHD graphics processors as the 12th generation Intel® Core™ processors based on the Xe architecture. This facilitates the migration of applications and solutions across Intel® CPU performance and power ranges. Support for Intel® AVX2 and Intel® Deep Learning Boost – combined with up to 32 Execution Units – provides accelerated deep learning inference and media processing for various edge applications.

The K3931-N mITX features up to three DisplayPorts V1.4a, an embedded DisplayPort V1.4b (4K), and a dual-channel LVDS (24bit), supporting up to three independent 4K displays (2x 4K + 1x FHD). It also includes expansion slots for PCIe and two M.2 ports, along with various other interfaces, including GPIO, four COM ports, and four USB 3.2 Gen2. Additionally, it supports ccTalk. Memory is provided via an SODIMM socket for high-performance DDR5 memory up to 32GB. The motherboard is designed for 24/7 operation with an extended temperature range of up to 60 °C.

Depending on performance requirements, four versions are available. The N6 variant is equipped with the powerful Intel® Core™ i3 N305 processor (Octa-Core, 1.0 / 1.8 / up to 3.8 GHz @9W / 15W), the K3931-N4 with Intel® N200 (Quad-Core, 1.0 / up to 3.7 GHz @6W). Another variant is the N2, featuring the Quad-Core Intel® N97 (K3931-N2, 2.0 / up to 3.6 GHz @12W). The N1 variant uses an Intel® N50 (Dual-Core, 1.0 / up to 3.4 GHz @6W) processor. This extensive scalability within the K3931-N series enables optimized performance, power consumption, and cost management within a single product design.

First samples are expected to be available from Q3 2023. Accessories such as the SMARTCASE™ S730 enclosure as well as active and passive coolers will also be offered.
