Kontron presents the K4021-U mSTX Motherboard with Intel® Core™ Ultra processors and integrated NPU for AI accelerators

Kontron, Ismaning, 10.10.2024 - Kontron, a global leader in IoT/Embedded Computer Technology (ECT), introduces the K4021-U mSTX Motherboard. This powerful motherboard is based on the latest Intel® Core™ Ultra 7 and 5 processors (SoC) and has been specifically designed for demanding AI workloads such as image recognition and automation. Thanks to the integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU), the K4021-U offers up to 20 times higher performance per watt with comparatively very low power consumption.

The K4021-U mSTX in the compact and versatile Mini-STX form factor is a space-saving alternative to 3.5" or NUC with its slim profile, making it ideal for installations with limited space. It supports standard components such as M.2 SSDs and SO-DIMM memory, offering an affordable solution for industrial applications through energy-efficient design, wireless installation, easy maintenance, and flexible expandability.

The motherboard is suitable for applications in POS/POI, production optimization, medical, digital signage, and kiosk solutions. It provides enhanced security features and comprehensive remote management options via Intel® Active Management Technology (AMT). The integrated GPU with up to 8 Xe cores delivers powerful graphics performance and supports demanding visual applications, including the display of up to four independent 4K displays or two 8K displays.

Developed and manufactured in Germany, the motherboard offers a wide range of connectivity options, including two DisplayPort™ ports, a DisplayPort™ via USB-Type-C on the front, and another with Thunderbolt™ 4 support. Additional options include an Embedded DisplayPort™ and dual-channel 24-bit LVDS panels. With four M.2 slots (Key-M, Key-B, & Key-E) and extensive ports, including 2x COM, Thunderbolt™ 4, and USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C with DisplayPort™ (DPoC), the K4021-U is highly versatile.

The K4021-U is designed for 24/7 operation and an extended temperature range of up to 60 °C. It supports DDR5-5600 memory with a maximum capacity of 96 GB, enabling smooth multitasking and processing of data-intensive tasks. The broad DC input range of 9-24 V, along with the 20 V DC input via the rear USB-C port (PowerDelivery Sink Mode), offers additional flexibility in power supply.

Initial samples of the K4021-U mSTX will be available at SPS 2024. A compatible mSTX SMARTCASE™ enclosure kit will also be offered at series launch in 2025.
