Kontrons Single Board Computer 2.5"-SBC-AML/ADN with processors of the Intel Atom® x7000(R)E-, Intel® Core™ i3 N-, or Intel® N-series

Kontron, Ismaning, 07.10.2024 - Kontron, a globally leading provider of IoT/Embedded Computer Technology (ECT), announces its 2.5" Single Board Computer (Pico-ITX SBC) product line with the new 2.5" SBC-AML / 2.5" SBC-ADN boards. This form factor option enables integrators to develop compact or portable computer systems with enhanced computing and graphics performance, faster AI-inferencing, as well as lower power consumption and reduced latency. The new SBCs are ideal for critical real-time computing in the industrial automation, smart city environments, retail, energy supply, and healthcare. Samples will be available to customers from November 2024.

The 2.5" SBC-ADN and 2.5" SBC-AML boards support all processor variants of the Intel Atom® x7000E series, Intel® Core™ i3 N series, Intel® N series (codename Alder Lake N), and Intel Atom® x7000RE series (codename Amston Lake) in both standard and project-specific configurations, with integrated Intel® UHD Graphics (Gen12), AI acceleration, and real-time computing. These new Pico-ITX single board computers feature various embedded controller functions and utilize advanced technology components. The processors provide nearly double the graphics performance compared to previous generations, with up to 32 execution units in the iGPU, enabling multiple concurrent AI-inferencing workloads. With Intel® Deep Learning Boost, faster AI-inferencing capabilities are achieved.

More performance and intelligence on a small footprint

Despite their compact size of 100 mm x 72 mm, slightly larger than a credit card, the 2.5" SBC-ADN and 2.5" SBC-AML boards deliver impressive graphics and media processing performance. They support connection of three 4K displays at 60 fps via an internal eDP interface and two external connections: DisplayPort and DisplayPort over USB-C.

Low latency and optimized bandwidth usage

Both the 2.5" SBC-ADN and 2.5" SBC-AML are equipped with components of the latest generation, including two 2.5 GbE LAN Intel® I226 controllers and three USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports (Type A and C) with data transfer rates of up to 10 Gbps. The soldered in-band ECC-capable LPDDR5 SDRAM (4, 8, or 16 GB) with up to 4800 MHz, combined with eMMC storage (32, 64, or 128 GB), makes the new Pico-ITX both shock and vibration resistant. All these features enable extremely low latencies within the system and to peripherals. Some models also support Intel® Time Coordinated Computing (TCC) and the Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) protocol, enabling real-time computing with up to 1 microsecond accuracy over Ethernet.

Robust and secure in harsh operating conditions and against cyber threats

Both models are available in two temperature variants: Commercial (0 °C to 60 °C) and Industrial (-40 °C to 85 °C), catering to various environments. The 2.5" SBC-AML is designed for 24/7 operation under harsh conditions and high loads.

Additionally, the boards support an input voltage range from 9 V DC to 20 V DC to compensate for unstable power supplies. An integrated TPM 2.0 security chip provides a more secure hardware-based solution for user authorization, network access, and data privacy.

Essential connectivity and expansion options on a small form factor

Despite their compact size, the 2.5" SBC-ADN and 2.5" SBC-AML boards offer numerous connection and expansion options. They feature internal headers for two COM ports (two RS232 or two RS232/422/485) and eight digital I/O channels for industrial applications.

Furthermore, the boards include two M.2 expansion slots (Key B and Key E) for Wi-Fi and WWAN (3G, 4G, or 5G) as well as additional SSD storage capacity. All these features are implemented with low power consumption.

Long-term availability

The 2.5" SBC-ADN and 2.5" SBC-AML single board computers offer extended long-term availability of up to 10 years from the release date, thanks to the use of key components from the embedded sector, and meet high certification standards with CE, FCC, ICES, UKCA & UR (UL Recognized) certificates.
