Kontron's Single Board Computer 3.5"-SBC-RPL with Intel® Core™ Processors of the 13th Generation U-Series
Kontron, Ismaning, 15.10.2024 - Kontron, a global provider of IoT/Embedded Computing Technology (ECT), announces the latest generation of its 3.5" SBC product line with 3.5"-SBC-RPL. The 3.5" SBC-RPL is a single-board computer powered by the hybrid-core processors of the 13th Gen Intel® Core™ U Series and Intel® U Series (codenamed 'Raptor Lake U'), enabling an optimal synergy between performance and efficiency. With integrated Intel® Iris® Xe graphics, AI inference, and real-time computing on the same chip, the board supports system developers in building compact edge systems that require excellent graphics and efficient data processing for applications in the industrial automation, smart cities, retail, energy supply, and healthcare sectors. Samples will be available for customers from January 2025.
The 3.5"-SBC-RPL utilizes an innovative hybrid computing architecture that combines performance and efficiency cores from the processors of the 13th Generation Intel® Core™ U Series. This allows for intelligent workload management, making the 3.5" SBC-RPL ideal for building compact systems. Additionally, this single board computer offers numerous features for integrated controllers and uses state-of-the-art technology components.
With integrated Intel® Iris® Xe graphics, the 3.5" SBC-RPL supports 8K resolution at 60 fps via two DisplayPort connections. The board can be expanded to up to four displays via additional ports, making it ideal for use in video walls and control rooms. An eDP/LVDS combo port is available for all-in-one systems. The GPU supports up to 96 execution units and enables AI acceleration for edge devices, supplemented by Intel® Deep Learning Boost and Intel® Gaussian & Neural Accelerator 3.0, which offers cost- and energy-efficient AI processing.
Next-Gen Low-Latency Data Transfer and Enhanced Scalability
The board features two DDR5 SO-DIMM sockets (up to 5200 MHz), dual 2.5 GbE LAN controllers Intel® i226, and four USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports (10 Gbps). Some variants include Intel® Time Coordinated Computing (TCC) and IEEE 802.1 Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) features, ensuring real-time and low-latency communication within and between systems, critical for real-time AI processing. The configurable TDP (12 W to 28 W) offers flexibility in system design. The 3.5" SBC-RPL single board computer provides three M.2 slots for SSDs, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, WWAN, and other expansions.
The extensive portfolio of 3.5" single board computers is complemented by a range of I/O and function expansion cards called 3.5"-eIO. These expansion boards add extra I/O ports, including additional display (DP & HDMI) and LAN connections. The 3.5"-eIOs support both commercial and industrial temperature ranges and are compatible with the single board computers 3.5"-SBC-ADN and 3.5"-SBC-AML, as well as previous generations 3.5"-SBC-EKL and 3.5"-SBC-TGL.
Robust and Secure
The 3.5" SBC-RPL is designed for harsh environments and supports a wide input voltage range (9 V to 36 V) for volatile power conditions. It incorporates a TPM 2.0 security chip for enhanced hardware security, protecting user data, securing network access, and safeguarding operational integrity against cyber threats. Some variants are engineered for continuous operation (24/7) under extreme operational conditions and high system load. Seven variants are available, in both industrial (-40 °C to 85 °C) and commercial (0 °C to 60 °C) ranges, based on Intel® Core™ i7, i5, i3, and U300E processors.
Long-Term Availability
The 3.5" SBC-RPL single board computer offers extended long-term availability of up to 10 years from the release date, utilizing key components from the embedded segment and meeting high certification standards with CE, FCC, ICES, UKCA & UL Recognized certificates.
