Kontron expands its new motherboard family with the K3851-R ATX based on the 12th generation Intel® Core™ i.

Kontron, Ismaning, 03.08.2022 - Kontron, a globally leading provider of IoT/Embedded Computer Technology (ECT), introduces a new ATX Motherboard that utilizes the latest 12th generation Intel® Core™ i Series processors (LGA1700 with 125W TDP). Following the recent launch of three µATX boards, Kontron expands its product family of new Motherboards “Designed and made in Germany,” consisting of Mini-ITX, µATX, and ATX form factors.

The K3851-R ATX is particularly interesting for applications requiring high scalability for PCIe — including PCIe 5.0, which is twice as fast as the previous standard PCIe 4.0. It is especially suitable for markets such as Industrial Automation, primarily for control PCs in 19" rack formats (including robotics), medical technology, high-performance workstations for CAD applications (also gaming PCs), as well as video editing and video wall displays via GenLock signal.

The ATX board with the Intel® R680E chipset features a total of three network interfaces (two Intel® i225 and one Intel® i219LM GbE vPRO controllers including AMT, Teaming, and TSN), two M.2 2230/2242/2280 slots (Key-M, PCIe/NVMe SSD modules) including NVMe RAID and support for Intel® Optane™ memory, as well as one M.2 2230 (Key-E) slot for WLAN/Bluetooth modules with CNVi support. It offers six PCIe slots: one x16 5.0, one x16 4.0, two x8 4.0, x1 3.0 lanes, and a PCI expansion card slot. Four COM ports complement the extensive array of interfaces.

The motherboard is suitable for operation within an extended temperature range of -10°C to +60°C. It supports four DDR5-4800 DIMM modules with up to 128 GB capacity and dual-channel configuration. Additionally, the board offers numerous other interfaces, including 13 USB ports—1x USB Type-C 3.2 Gen2 and 6x USB Type-A (2x USB 3.2 Gen2, 4x USB 3.2 Gen1)—on the rear panel. The Trusted Platform Module (TPM 2.0) ensures a high level of hardware- and software-based system security.

Extensive tools provide options for customizing TDP values, fan profiles, BIOS default settings, and more.

The K3851-R is manufactured in Germany; samples will be available from September 2022.
